We invite you to explore this site for our vision, mission, and strategic goals: to create a vibrant and fulfilling aging experience for individuals aged 50 and above in our state. In addition we will promote financial security and wellness as individuals age.
We are looking for an additional 3 – 5 qualified individuals who are or have worked in the fields of health, wellness, finance, law, protective services, or community development.

Board of Directors – Meeting Responsibilities
- The Board of Directors is the mind and heart of this organization. The board’s streamlined corporate governance and forward-thinking determine success.
- The Mind, Heart, and Muscle Board of Directors will comprise a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 11 individuals representing health, wellness, personal, and financial security sectors.
- No less than six meetings will be held annually, with a frequency of every two months from April 2024.
- Meeting time will be 60 – 90 minutes.
- Meetings will be held virtually 5 x per year.
- Members are expected to participate in 5 of 6 meetings and communicate their absence with the President.
- Members may be expected to participate in committee work and other assignments as agreed.
- Board Members are expected to represent themselves in alignment with the messaging and mission of Mind, Heart, and Muscle.
Board Member Roles
The Board President carries the most responsibility and should be passionate about the role, approachable, and objective. The board president will:
- Preside board meetings.
- Oversees board and Executive Committee meetings.
- Serves as the main contact for fellow board members in case of difficulties or conflicts.
- Directs committees by appointing members and assigning chairs.
- Ensures corporate goals and objectives are met.
Vice presidents possess similar qualities as the president and support the leader in their duties whenever needed. The Vice President will:
- Take the lead when the president is unavailable.
- Assisting the chairperson in the execution of his or her duties.
- Serve on board committees.
- Gathers information needed for future corporate leadership.
The Secretary is the administrative board member role and his or her duties include:
- Distribute all necessary information before every meeting.
- Takes and shares with the board the minutes of the meeting within 3 business days of each meeting.
- Manages the board schedule and attendance.
The Treasurer is the member heading the corporation’s financial matters and steers the direction of all monetary flows within the organization. The Treasurer should possess bookkeeping/accounting skills and be reliable and organized. The Treasurer will:
- Review organizational financial statements and timely submission of tax documents and legal forms.
- Lead and oversee the finance committee.
- Assisting the Executive Director with preparing the annual budget
- Review the annual audit and answer audit-related queries.

Anita Hoy Executive Director/President
With a background in health, wellness, program development, finance, and project management, Anita is a seasoned Vermonter and founding member of Mind, Heart, and Muscle.
Hilary Hoffman Director of Strategic Planning/Secretary
Hilary has attained success in advocacy campaigns at the local, national, and international levels, along with significant experience in organizational and business development within socially responsible sectors.
Michelle Kessler Chief Financial Officer/Treasurer
Michelle has over 20 years experience in finance, human resources, grant, and project management working in financial private and nonprofit organizations.
David Ide, Board Member
Owner of Montpelier Agway Farm & Garden Co. A native Vermonter, David has been involved with agriculture and business for 34 years, joining Agway in 1990 after graduating from college. He has an Associate Degree in Agricultural Business from Vermont Technical College and a Bachelor of Science in Business from the University of Southern Maine. Enjoying all four seasons in Vermont, David is an avid outdoorsman. He loves kayaking, fishing, skiing, hunting, metal detecting, and any other excuse to be outdoors.
Jack Parenteau, Board Member
President, Founder/Partner, Parenteau & O’Hara, P.C. Jack has investigated, managed, and litigated special investigation unit (“SIU”) cases, and insurance law cases of all types for over 33 years. He has handled SIU cases from first notice of loss through appellate court decisions. He has developed strategies for handling medical fraud cases locally and as national coordinating counsel for many Fortune 100 insurance companies. He was President and Managing partner of a national law firm with four offices and 38 attorneys. He was also the founder and President of two regional law firms based in New England. Jack has a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice with honors from Northeastern University, he is a graduate of the Maine Criminal Justice Academy, and he received his Juris Doctorate from Massachusetts School of Law where he was a Member of Law Review.
Jack is admitted and a licensed attorney in Federal and State courts in
Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont. He is a member of the
Massachusetts Bar Association, Maine Bar Association, New Hampshire Bar
Association, and the Vermont Bar Association.
Jack is General Counsel to the New England Chapter of the International
Association of Special Investigation Units, and was past General Counsel to the
New England Association of Insurance Fraud Investigators. He is the published
author of “Combatting Kickbacks” and is co-author of “Conducting Medical Clinic
Investigations.” Jack has been a featured speaker on insurance fraud issues,
throughout the United States and Canada.
Jack has been married to his wife Bonnie for 18 years, they have three sons, and
six grand children.
Robb Kidd, Board Member Conservation Program Manager for the Vermont Sierra Club
For the last decade he has strategically collaborated with many groups and volunteers throughout Vermont to address climate change and social justice. His primary recent work has been to promote clean and accessible transportation. The last few years have especially been focused on supporting active transportation. Coupled with his advocacy work he incorporates outings to build community and as a method to build support of conservation goals. Robb has extensive experience advocating at the Vermont State House, non-profit management, and has a Masters Degree in Environmental Law from Vermont Law School. Originally, from NJ, he spent ten years as a travel consultant which drew him to greater exploration of the natural world. His love of the outdoors and love of his wife had him move to Vermont. He lives in Montpelier, with his wife, teenage son, and dog. During his free time he regularly bikes, runs, paddles, and hikes, in addition to regular training at Fluidly Moving Body Works.
